Been wanting to visit and try since I found out about this restaurant. Service was attentive and intimate as the restaurant was quite small and more formal than ones I visited. Food menu not a long list but sufficient for those who craves for Korean food and did well. We’re happy with our order and also took the dessert home. Worth a visit!

Small but mighty! Unassuming set back from the road, this restaurant delivers! The tteboki had great flavour, the japche noodles were chewy, and the spicy soup was rich and good level spicy. The Korean take on tiramisu was interesting but worth a try. I recommend booking. I will be returning!

1st time here. A bit difficult to find the entry as it located a bit hidden from President Avenue. On the upside if the weather is good, sitting outside would be great. Service is warm, attentive & efficient. I don’t like the sauce on Edamame at all but my boss seems to enjoy it. Vegetable Pork Dumplings is one of the best I’ve had in a Korean restaurant. Bibimbap & Kimchi Pork Soup are good but I wouldn’t say wow. Portion is a bit small. In general, aside from kimchi, 1 chili mark on the menu means NOT hot at all for my taste & compare to other Korean restaurants. Need not to say, my boss loves it for she doesn’t like spicy. Soy Caramel Sundae is good, not too sweet but the sauce is. 2 suggestions : (1) reduce the volume of background music; & (2) need more staffs, just 1 at the moment would have spread too thin to cover both indoor & outdoor with takeaways on the side. Mar 1 2026- we sit outside this time, much quieter. Unfortunately my boss pick a table under the air conditioner. She only found water had been slowly dripping on her quite sometime later. Streamed Pork Vegetables Dumplings is always good. Streamed Vegetables Dumplings is not as good. Stir Fry Beef is ok but not wow. Rice Cake got 2 chili on the menu (1 chili more than Kimchi Pork Soup) but the level of spicy is just the same, ie not hot at all for my taste. Portion wise in general is good with my boss but too small for me. Especially I was told that the Rice Cake is designed to be shared by 2. I guess she meant “as an entree”.

I appreciate good food. I appreciate Macheon. I feel like I got teleported back to the streets of Tanjong Pagar in Singapore! The rice melts off the spoon, chicken batter succulent and crispy — full of flavour, and temperature perfect the moment it was served. Ingredients were high quality and felt soul-filling. Even the sides tasted super fresh. Everything was amazing from scratch to end, service impeccable, staff were very friendly and constantly checked in to see how we were doing. New favorite in the Shire!

As a kdrama loving Filipino, this place hit all the right spots! The food tasted like it came straight out of a kdrama sceen so good lol. I almost looked around for a dramatic plot twist. Cozy vibes, friendly staff, and you can really tell there’s heart in every dish. I’m definitely coming back and bringing friends with me next time.

Tucked Away, Totally Worth It! Macheon Is a Korean Gem in Caringbah. If you haven’t heard of Macheon yet, let me put it on your radar. This tiny Korean restaurant quietly opened in Caringbah about three months ago, hidden down a laneway off the main drag. Blink and you’ll miss it. But trust me, you shouldn’t miss it. It only seats about 12 inside and another dozen outside, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in heart, flavour, and hospitality. Chef Joe (Joon Ye – hope I’ve got that right!) came to Sydney from Seoul 8 years ago and was previously the head chef at Hanok Korean BBQ in Miranda Westfield. Now he’s doing his own thing, and it’s something special. The name Macheon is a nod to his hometown of Macheon-dong, and there’s clearly a lot of love behind the food. We kicked things off with Mandu (Korean dumplings) which were beautifully made and came with a zingy soy dipping sauce that hit all the right notes. We also tried the mini fried veg dumplings – fine, but the Mandu were the clear winner. Then the mains came rolling in, and they were knockout. Dolsot Bibimbap (served sizzling in a hot stone bowl with bulgogi beef, mixed veg, and egg yolk), nourishing, comforting, and full of texture. Rose Tteokbokki which was a creamy, tomato-based twist on the classic Korean rice cake dish with sausage, mushroom, carrot, and a crunchy tempura topping. Addictive. Japchae with bulgogi. Sweet potato noodles stir-fried with marinated beef and veggies, rich with soy and sesame. And of course, the KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) we picked a full serve the garlic soy (absolute standout), then asked for a half-half serving of sweet & spicy (could use a bit more chilli), and cheese dust (which is now synonymous with Korean chicken). All boneless, perfectly crisp, and just $23 a serve. Great value. (Chef, if you’re reading, I’d love to see a savoury version) As is tradition, the mains came with a generous set of banchan (Korean side dishes) including house-made kimchi, seaweed noodles, cabbage salad, crispy fish skins, and a creamy Korean-style potato salad (gamja, I believe). All fresh, all delicious. There were 4 of us dining, and the bill came to around $120, that’s $30 each! Unheard of value for the quality of food we were served. It’s BYO wine and they’ve got water and soft drinks available. All up? Macheon deserves to be full every night of the week. It’s authentic, it’s affordable, and it’s run by people who clearly care. If you love Korean food or if you’re just hungry and curious, go support this little local gem. You’ll be glad you did!
